Area fire departments are now accepting children's names for Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a program that raises money to give children in need a better Christmas.
This year, the Robinson Fire Department is accepting the names of children age newborn to 12.
To sign up a child, stop by the department, 400 S. Jackson, by Dec. 12. No late registrations can be accepted. Toys will be delivered Dec. 21.
The Hutsonville Fire Department is taking names of children ages newborn to 12. To submit names call 563-4700 or 563-4018 and leave a message, someone will contact you. They will be taking names until Dec. 3.
The Prairie-Licking Fire Department will be taking names of children in the Annapolis area until Dec. 13. The names of children age newborn to 12 can be submitted by calling 618-553-4296.
The Oblong Fire Department is taking the names of children age 2 to 12, until Dec. 19. To submit names you must fill out paperwork at the Oblong Water Department office in the village hall. For more information you can call 592-3122.
Enrollment is now open for Shop With a Cop also. The program in which police officers go out with needy local children to get presents, school supplies and clothes.
Participants have to be under the age of 13.
Registration forms can be picked up and returned at any local police or fire department, said Robinson Police Officer Dan Strauch, who is organizing the event.
Strauch said people who want to donate money to the program can send it by mail to the Norman T. Richards Memorial Fraternal Order of Police lodge at P.O. Box 188, Robinson, IL 62454.
