Unit 4 says goodbye to Tim Holt
Also: State fiscal crisis precludes raises for non-certified staff.
Oblong Unit 4 school board members said farewell to a long-time employee Monday.

The board accepted the resignation of transportation director Tim Holt. He has worked in that position, handling bus scheduling and maintenance, for 14 years.

"We're going to miss him," Superintendent Jeff Patchett said.

Unit 4 is switching to leasing buses instead of purchasing them. It will be using a new fleet and will have less need of a mechanic, Patchett explained.

Scheduling will be taken over by someone already on staff, he added.

The board also approved the 2013-14 non-certified pay schedules for transportation, custodial, aides, cooks, secretaries, nurse and substitute teachers.

For the second year, there is no pay increase for these positions because of the ongoing state financial crisis, Patchett said.

In other personnel business, the board accepted the resignation of volunteer assistant junior-high baseball coach Doug Gill.

Also, the board employed Beth Meese as a speech language teacher for the 2013-14 school year.

The board approved a contract with Environmental Safety Consultants Ltd. The firm handles asbestos issues for the district.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a resolution to move interest from the working cash fund to the education fund.

• Recognized Susie Tracy and her family for their years of dedication and service to the Crawford County Leadership Camp.

• Approved the prevailing wage resolution.

• Appointed Jane Attaway as treasurer.

• Approved several new district policies.

The next regular school board meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, July 15, in the Oblong Room of Oblong Elementary School.
