Two men have been arrested in connection with an apartment fire that happened Wednesday night.
Jeremiah T. Lester, 32, Robinson, was arrested late Wednesday night on a preliminary charge of aggravated arson for the fire at 707 S. Cross St., Robinson.
Marshall H. Walker, 24, also of Robinson, was arrested on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery and unlawful possession of cannabis. The aggravated battery charge relates to Walker allegedly attempting to punch a police officer. Walker is also being held on a Monroe County, Ind., warrant.
Police were first notified of a prowler in a vacant apartment at 707 S. Cross. Upon arrival at the scene, they found the apartment on fire and proceeded to evacuate the building and call the fire department. Within an hour police had arrested Lester and Walker.
Police continue to investigate the fire. Thursday investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office were on scene.
A fire in a trash dumpster near the intersection of Cross and Poplar, reported around the same time as the apartment fire, is suspected of being related.
Both are being held in the Crawford County Jail on $10,020 bond.
