2/13/2019 11:15:00 AM Seniors, disabled vulnerable to abuse
As Valentines' Day approaches we need to take time to remember our seniors and those among us who are disabled. Seniors are the fastest growing segment of our population and far too often these individuals along with those who are disabled are victims of abuse. There are several types of abuse ranging from physical abuse, verbal abuse to neglect and financial exploitation.
This abuse usually occurs in the victims own home, and many times they are unable to report it themselves. Due to health and possibly physical limitation they are unable to defend themselves and may need your help to make a report.
SWAN Adult Protective Services is a resource for those individuals. You can make a report confidentially and we will investigate and try to remedy the situation. Our case workers will work with the victim to try and find solutions that will work for them. SWAN case workers offer options to the client and lets them choose which are right for them.
SWAN also offers trainings for banks on financial exploitation as well as training to other groups as requested.
If you know or suspect a senior or a disabled person who lives in their home is being abused or neglected please call 1-888-715-6260 and make a report. It is time we break the silence.
Without the help of the community it is not possible to end these types of abuse.
