I thought I'd share some thoughts on the current immigration arguments.
Firstly the idea of keeping families together and not separating them when they "illegally" enter the country is admirable. Admirable but questionable. Questionable because of the practice of some sending their children across the border so the U.S. becomes responsible for their care doesn't seem right to me. Kind of like the old practice of leaving kids in a basket at the door to a church. It's called abandonment and in the U.S. these folks get arrested and their children turned over to Child Services. Also, the idea of crossing the border knowing full well your kids will be taken from you. Everywhere in America if you go to jail your kids go into Child Care rather than them going to jail with you or being seen as a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card.
Secondly the idea some politicians have come up with of getting rid of Immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE). Because some don't like the laws being enforced their idea of getting rid of ICE seems like a good idea to them. Why don't we just get rid of the police because we don't like them enforcing laws either. Dumb idea huh?
Here's a thought for those wanting to get rid of ICE. Ask the governor and Congress Members of your state to propose pulling ICE out of your state and put them where they are wanted. Can you imagine a state asking the President to pull Ice out? That state would become a massive magnet to every illegal alien criminal in the country. It's easy to just say get rid of ICE, but I wonder how long these politicians would stay in office if they proposed pulling them from their own states?
I've written before about the idea of personal and parental responsibility. Some say these immigration actions are moral issues and I agree. Is it moral to pay someone to take your kids across another countries border and drop them off? Is it moral to commit a crime and use your kids as a way to avoid punishment? Is it moral to recommend getting rid of an essential law enforcement agency to get reelected?
Maybe some should look at the morality of their own actions and words rather than question those of others.
