Both political sides are 'radicalizing' Americans

Editor:

I believe many Americans are being radicalized.  I'm not talking about Islamic radicals spreading propaganda to influence Muslims to violence, but the press and politicians radicalizing Americans to political hate.

There are many more TV shows, radio shows and web services today that are promoting leaks as facts and expressing their hate for their opposition than ever before, and I think it's taking a toll.  Unless you only watch the local news, and not all the "main stream media," you are getting bombarded by both sides promoting their biased agenda and telling you the other side is either stupid or evil.  You are being told that one side wants to kill or starve children and let old and sick people die.  The other side wants you to believe that all business people are evil and out to get all the wealth of America for themselves and that the government could run everything better.

Unfortunately, I watch too much of the national news and I find myself yelling at the TV on occasion at some of the truly irresponsible comments being made by both sides.  I find that discussing some of these issues with others leads to squabbles; and the more the other person watches the national news the more they are firmly entrenched in their beliefs for better or worse.

I believe the more a person knows about the issues the better informed they are and better able to make logical decisions.  However, sometimes the more they watch the radical speech on both sides of the an issue the less willing they are to look at both sides of any issue.

I sometimes think that watching the Weather Channel would be better for my blood pressure, but then I don't really trust weather persons to give me an accurate forecast either.  Maybe that's why the Simpsons cartoon has been on TV so long.  It's really hard to take them seriously.
