Support lacking for military personnel, retirees

Editor:

We at one time had good leadership, most of the time, in this country. Mr. Obama, it is known that you want world peace. There has been no peace in this world since Cain slew Abel. Ever since then, yes I am going to use the word, God let man decide his own destiny.

We are now at a crossroads and the future isn't looking too bright. There is trouble looming ahead. Our president wanted to reduce the number of personnel in our military leaving us with our guard down. I don't believe he was born at the start of World War II when we were caught napping. Now there are at least three countries with two and three million troops in uniform. And they are rattling swords. Yet there has been nothing done.

The pay to military personnel has been reduced to where the enlisted personnel has to resort to food stamps. Yes, our people in the military have families and I know that for a fact that in the 1950s living in the military was tough and I don't think it has changed all that much. Why should a person stay in the military when they can be civilians and draw food stamps and not worry about the thought of getting shot at.

Getting back to the reduction of base pay, there is a problem that some government people don't want to take a reduction in pay. Or they think they are above it. Members of Congress, of which most of them are millionaires, why don't they take a reduction in their pay? They are drawing six figures in pay and they don't have to worry about being transferred or get shot at. I remember back in the '40s and '50s if you were a member of congress you lived in the area of where your constituents can get in touch with you. When they were wanted in D.C. they were called on the phone and they came home when their business with the president was over. They lived at home not in or around D.C. in the expensive places. I know we the people of by and for the government cannot have a say about their standard of pay. They have to do that their selves. Don't hold your breath.

Right now our country is in a dire need of home area watching. A while back the state of Texas found in the center of their state an area for the training of terrorists. There has been nothing more said about it. I think nothing has been said about it because they don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.

Which brings me to another sore spot that has been getting worse every day. Our military retirees and present military get no respect from some of these people when they won't let them fly the flag that they have fought for and are still fighting for. Some times service people are attacked by a group of delinquents who are too chicken to fight one on one. I hate to say it but there are several cities and towns don't have any control or don't want any thing to say when a group protests against the military or some military personnel.

Our president campaigned for world peace. He couldn't get that job done, now we are facing a crisis of which I don't think there is much room for backing down. Hell's fire, Obama doesn't know how to handle a crisis.

That is my opinion.
