Robinson, Oblong spikers both fall

By JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

Crawford County went 0-for-2 on the volleyball court Tuesday night, as Robinson and Oblong both lost matches on the road. Robinson was defeated by Charleston in an Apollo Conference match in straight sets 25-14, 25-21, while Oblong lost at Tri-County 25-13, 25-16.

"I'm disappointed in the way things turned out," RHS head coach Eric Dean said. "I was optimistic that we would be able to go up there and pull off the upset. We didn't play well for the first game and a half, and when we did get things going, we had dug too big of a hole to climb out of."

Jillian Baker topped the Lady Maroons with eight points, including an ace, seven assists, three blocks and two digs. Karlie Conrad had three points, including two aces, four kills and two digs, Gracie Kerr added two points, two aces and two digs and Audrey Wartsbaugh had two points, two assists, one kill and two digs. Brooke Murray chipped in a point, five kills, two blocks and a dig, Taylor Blagrave had a point and one kill and Bailey Knust had one point and a dig. Kelsey Dirks had one assist, three kills and four blocks, while Jamie Barthelme had an assist and Brittany Marqua had one dig.

"Jillian Baker continued her solid play at the setter position," Dean said. "Audrey Wartsbaugh had a very good night when you look at what she did in the JV contest along with the varsity."

Robinson also lost the junior varsity match in three sets, 25-13, 22-25, 19-25.

Caitlyn Hodson was the high scorer with nine points, including an ace, and four digs. Wartsbaugh scored seven points, including two aces, to go along with 11 assists, one kill and five digs. Barthelme added six points, two aces, three assists and one dig, while Hunter Shaw also had six points, including an ace, six assists and two digs. Knust had five points, three kills, one block and two digs, Mychal Lowrance had three points, including an ace, five assists and three digs and Anna Lachenmayr had two points, including an ace, and one dig. Whitney Welsh recorded a point, an assist and six kills, while Dirks added three kills and two blocks, Katie Brooks had five kills and Jordyn Montgomery had two digs.

The freshman pregame match was also won by Charleston 25-8, 25-21.

Emma Stone led the way with three points, including an ace, two assists and two kills, while Hodson had three points, a kill and four digs and Montgomery scored three points and two kills. Tehya Pritts tallied two points, four assists and three digs and Heather Murphy had two points, one ace, two kills and a dig. Mariah Hickey had one point, a kill and a dig, Meagon Clark had one point and Alayna Griffin had a kill.

"The score does not reflect how well we played," OHS head coach Diana Plummer said. "We did not miss a serve all night and our pass game was much better, so we were able to run a much quicker offense."

Danielle Smith led the Lady Panthers with four points and 27 good sets, while Ashley Rich had three points, including an ace, four good sets, 11 good spikes, 2 good blocks, four digs and was 11-13 on serves. Hanna Houdasheldt had two points, one good set, 10 good spikes and 10 good blocks. Taylor Krick added a point, one good set, six good spikes, five good blocks and one dig. Kenzie Mendenhall had six good sets, two good spikes, four good blocks and was four of nine on serves. Nicole Davis was perfect on all six of her serves and had four digs, while Kylie Harper had four good spikes and one good set. Megan Krick added two good serves, BreAnne Wheeler had a good set and Katie Stovall had one good spike.

"These girls are all working hard and staying positive," Plummer said. "I'm confident these first three losses to very tough teams has only helped our game. We'll get there."

Oblong also lost the junior varsity contest 25-20, 25-12.

Katie Stovall had eight points, including two aces, a good set, four good spikes, five good serves and two digs to lead the way. Chelsea Hoalt had two points, five good sets and one good block, while Tonya Midgett had two points, two good serves, two good spikes, one good block, five good serves and two digs. Olivia Inboden added a point, seven good sets, six good spikes, four good serves and four digs.
