Crawford County Sheriff William Rutan won a second four-year term in Tuesday's general election. Rutan, a Republican, held off Democrat challengers Floyd Brinkman, garnering 4,657 ballots to Brinkman's 2,292, or more than 67 percent of the vote.

The state is turning over Illinois Route 1A to Crawford County, but it will be months before the hand-off is complete.
It was announced recently that the Illinois Department of Transportation has offered to transfer control of the state highway from Trimble to Prison Road to the county highway department. It will also pay $1.8 million into the county's Motor Fuel Tax Fund in compensation for accepting the 4.4-mile stretch of road.
