Missed The Turn
Missed The Turn
Despite nearly overturning her vehicle on Thursday, a Round Lake Par woman and her 2002 Toyota Camry were found unscathed following a wreck. According to Palestine Police Chief Jeff Besing, Brenda K. Carlos, 53, was southbound on Illinois Route 1 at Gordon Junction when she tried to turn into the north entrance to Murphy's Convenience Store. Due to the rain and fog, Carlos misjudged her distance in turning and drove into the ditch at the entrance. No injuries were sustained and Crouse Towing and Recovery pulled the vehicle out of the ditch about 11:35 a.m. (Submitted photo)

Lady Panthers fall to St. Anthony, 56-37
Back-to-back regional championships were within the grasp of Oblong High School's girls' basketball team Thursday night (Feb. 7), but the Lady Panthers were unable to close the deal.

Oblong hung right with Effingham St. Anthony for three quarters, but the upset-minded Lady Panthers ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and suffered a 56-37 loss in the championship game of the IHSA Class 1A Palestine Regional.

"We hung with them for three quarters, but St. Anthony hit the shots in the fourth when they needed them," OHS head coach Tim Johnson said. "The girls fought hard, we just had too many turnovers."
